This route starts from Hatching Green (public road) and continues generally northwestwards to end on Harpenden Rural 1 bridleway.

1938: The route is shown as a BW (blue dots) on the Hertfordshire County Council ROW survey. Map St Albans Rural 7 (Herts 21 SW).
20 Jun 1953: Harpenden 7 and Harpenden Rural 2 were recorded as bridleways on the original definitive map and statement. DM sheet DM3-14 (TL11SW).
31 Dec 1977: Harpenden 7 and Harpenden Rural 2 were shown as bridleways on the special review draft map and statement. DM sheet SR-55.
