Local Government: Formerly within Potters Bar Urban District in Middlesex. From 1965, part of Hertfordshire. From 1974, part of Hertsmere Borough. South Mimms Parish Council was created in May 2008. Paths in South Mimms retained their former Potters Bar numbers. From 1 Apr 2023, the individual parishes of South Mimms and Ridge were disolved and a new single parish of South Mimms and Ridge was created.
The Parish of South Mimms was added to the Metropolitan Police District on 3 Jan 1840 and so any commons in the parish are 'Metropolitan Commons'.
